Abstract |

Nano crystalline oxides are of immense interest to scientists due to their high surface area and enriched surface chemistry. In the present work magnesium oxide MgO nanoparticles were obtained by thermal decomposition of magnesium hydroxide Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles. Nanoscale MgO particles are generated via a co-precipition method using magnesium nitrate hexahyrate and sodium hydroxide as starting materials. Effects of the relative reactant concentration ratios on characteristics of MgO nanoparticles are also investigated. The prepared magnesium oxide nanostructures were characterized by XRD, FTIR, FESEM and FETEM analysis. Antibacterial studies were carried out on gram positive (S.aureus) and gram negative (E.coli) bacteria by Agar diffusion method. |
