Abstract |

The family of IEEE 802.11 wireless network is organized in either Infrastructure or Ad-Hoc mode. It is necessary to prevent unauthorized access or damage to computers using wireless environment. Attackers can easily make attacks by compromising the systems or compromised devices which are called Stepping Stone Attacks. To make difficulty for a victim, attacker uses evasive techniques to the node by introducing dummy packets into the stream, introducing delay into the timing of the packet stream. The objective of this work is to develop an effective and efficient scheme along with a number of related algorithms to detect stepping stone attacks in Wi-Fi environments, through same evasion techniques are followed by attackers. A timing based detection algorithm Packet Match (PM) used to detect stepping stone attack pairs between attacker and victim. TELNET protocol is used to compromising the different hosts between attacker and victim. Algorithm PM made the decision by matching the first “n†packets in incoming stream (S1) with their possible relays in outgoing stream (S2) subject to the maximum delay (∆). Many Stepping Stone Attacks are identified as Interactive. In interactive Stepping Stone Attacks, the attacker sends new commands based on the feedback of the previous commands. |
