Abstract

The challenges in Distributed Generation (DG) Systems is that of unexpected islanding which prompts to power quality issues in the utility framework. This paper lends an overview on detection and reconnection methods which are widely recognized for industrial as well as for residential grid-connected operation. For the placement, integration, and control of Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) in Distributed Generation (DG) based grid connected Microgrid or micro generation (μG) system has been presented here. Here introduced UPQC with its parts. UPQC is the interconnected system with shunt and series parts. The shunt part of the UPQC (APFsh) is placed at the PCC and series part of the UPQC (APFse) is connected before the PCC and in series with the grid. Here introduced elegant islanding detection and reconnection technique (IR) in the UPQC as a secondary control. Hence it is termed as UPQC uG-IR, during the islanded and interconnected mode, DG Converter with storage will only supply the active power and the shunt part of the UPQC will compensate the reactive and harmonic power of the load. It also offers the DG Converter to remain connected during the voltage disturbances including phase jump.
