Abstract |

PMG have been used for wind turbines for many years. Many small wind turbine manufacturers use direct-drive permanent-magnet generators. For wind turbine generators, the design idea must cover the following characteristics: low cost; light weight; low speed; high torque; and variable speed generation. A modular permanent-magnet generator with axial flux direction was chosen. The permanent magnet used is NdFeB or ferrite magnet with flux guide to focus flux density in the air gap. Replacing the rotor with permanent magnet rotor. The Simulations were used to calculate both electromagnetic and mechanical properties of the design. The result was a design of a permanent magnet rotor to be used with the old stator with some small changes to the generator support structure. The new generator has the same output power. It was concluded that it is possible to use the same stator with either an old rotor or a permanent magnet rotor. |
