Design and Analysis of UWB Microstrip Patch Antenna using C-Shape Slots in Ground Plane & Horizontal and Vertical Insets in Patch

Abstract

This paper focuses on design and analysis of UWB rectangular microstrip patch antenna with C-shape slots in ground plane and insets in patch to acquire UWB frequency range. Firstly C-shape slot is made in the ground plane of microstrip patch antenna with the addition of horizontal and vertical slits in the patch was attempted for their optimized dimensions and location in the patch. Further, to increase the bandwidth an extra horizontal slit was introduced. Simulation result shows that the proposed UWB microstrip antenna have a bandwidth ranging from 3.3GHz–16GHz for which S11<-9dB for complete frequency range of UWB frequency range having VSWR<2. Parametric study was included to determine effectiveness of design towards the antenna performance. The performance of the designed antenna was analysed in term of bandwidth, gain, return loss, VSWR, and radiation pattern.
