The correct selection of manufacturing conditions is one of the most important aspects to take into consideration in the majority of manufacturing processes. Face milling is a very common method for metal cutting and finishing of machined parts. The input machining parameters being considered in this research is spindle speed, tool feed and type of lubricants. The Stainless steel EN8 is used as work piece. The tool used for milling operation is HSS face milling cutter. A well-designed experimental scheme was used to reduce the total number of experiments. The Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array has been used to design the combinations of parameters of experiments. Material removal rate has been measured after the operations. The machining experiments are performed on Computer Numerical Control Vertical Milling Machine (640). Nine experiments are run on machine thrice. Material Removal Rate has been checked with the help of weighing machine. After the operations the measurements are fill in the L9 Orthogonal array table which is made with the help of MINITAB 16 and also plot the graph for different parameters (spindle speed, tool feed and type of lubricants). Signal to Noise ratio is used according to response (output) that means if we want to find S/N ratio for MRR then S/N ratio larger is better. The optimum levels of parameters have been found 2000 rpm spindle speed, 600mm/rev tool feed and using vegetable oil are optimized parameters to obtained Highest MRR. |
