Abstract |
Many applications for wireless service operate with their own individual licensed spectra. It is rare that each service is fully consuming its available spectrum. To realize a more efficient use of this valuable resource, secondary spectrum usage by cognitive radios is being considered. Cognitive radio (CR) is the enabling technology for supporting dynamic spectrum access the policy that addresses the spectrum scarcity problem. Cognitive radio is a technology initiated by many research organizations and academic institutions to raise the spectrum utilization of underutilized spectrum channels through dynamic spectrum access. Cognitive Radio is a paradigm for wireless communication in which either a network or a wireless node changes its transmission or reception parameters to communicate effectively while avoiding interference to licensed users. |
