Abstract

Natural convective heat transfer from a vertical flat plate which have a uniform surface heat flux has studied. With a vertical flat plate the heat transfer rate is dependent on the flow near the vertical edges of the plate. The magnitude of the edge effects will depend on the conditions existing near the edges of the plate. In this thesis, the effect of the edge condition of a vertical flat plate on the heat transfer rate will be analytically investigated. Thermal analysis and CFD analysis will be done on the plates with different edge conditions to determine the heat transfer rate at different Reynolds’s number and, Nusselt number by considering Laminar flow. Thermal analysis and CFD analysis will be done in Ansys. Different materials Aluminum alloys, Copper and Composite material S2-Glass will be considered for analysis.
