Concrete is one of the most important materials in today's construction industry. In today's construction industry demand of concrete is increasing rapidly. As per the common practice concrete is made up of cement, aggregates and water. Cement is the major constituent material of the concrete which produced by natural raw material like lime and silica. Cement has very vast consumption in today's world. Once the day will come that there will be no natural resources available for making cement and hence there will be a need to find good alternative or replacement for cement which should have similar properties to cement. Industrial waste like Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag shows many chemical properties similar to cement. Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag has designated as GGBS, GGBFS, Slag or Slag cement. Use of GGBS as cement replacement will simultaneously reduces cost of concrete and help to reduce rate of cement consumption. GGBS is the by product of iron industry. Hence this technical literature shows similar properties between cement and GGBS and advantages and disadvantages of GGBS in concrete. |
