Abstract

Six Sigma is a set of techniques and tools for process improvement. Six sigma is both philosophy and methodology that improves quality by analyzing data with statistics to find the root cause of quality problem and to implement controls. Statistically, six sigma refers to a process in which the range between the mean of a process quality measurement and the nearest specification limit is at least six times the standard deviation of the process. Six Sigma introduced another way of thinking about process improvement by focusing primarily on the financial impact, defect reduction and customer satisfaction. The objectives of this paper are to study and evaluate processes of implementation of six sigma, benefits of implementing six sigma, limitations of implementing six sigma, six sigma phases and various statistical tools for quality analysis. Quality professionals are aware that the six sigma methodology employs existing, well known tools developed in quality science and are based on the works of Deming, Juran, Ishikawa, Taguchi and others.
