Abstract |
|
The low grade Wood Polymethyl Methacrylate Composites (WPCs) were synthesized through vacuum impregnation polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) into poplar (populous) and Bakain (Melia azedarach) wood in methanol (25, 30 and 35% v/v) in presence of benzoyle peroxide (1.0 % w/v) in benzene medium at 700C. The loading of poly methyl methacrylate into the wood was ascertained through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), TGA/TG, DTA and FTIR spectra characterization. The Methyl methacrylate (MMA) loading; compressive strength, static bending strength and hardness have been modified and the resistance against thermo oxidation of WPCs are noticed in general increased. |
