Abstract |

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is the automation of tools that are operated by precisely programmed commands encoded on a storage medium as opposed to controlled manually by hand wheels or levers. Typically, a CNC machine has the ability to move in 3 axes, meaning that it can position that sketch pen at a precise point in or on the paper to create the operation desired at that point. By moving the pen through multiple points, the pen can draw the design represented by a data stream of positioning points being sent by the PC. By controlling a CNC machine through a PC it is possible for the user to design a product on-screen, convert it to CNC-readable code and then send that data to the CNC machine for it to produce a physical copy of the item designed. The purpose of the CNC Machine is to provide that powerful ability to go from concept design to physical product with an inexpensive, compact, adaptable desktop-size machine. |
