Abstract

The paper presents the results for the Experimental and Analytical modal analysis technique for the different structural components of the vertical milling machine. The undesired vibrations or oscillatory motion of the machine components during processing leads lack of processing productivity, surface quality etc., To overcome these chatter form as resonance effect, modal analysis is conducted. The main results deal with assessment of mode shape of different components of the milling machine centre. Initially Experimental modal analysis is carried out and FRF graphs for different components recorded and analysed using the Lab View software, further accurate dimensions of the different milling centre components is measured and designed the model in CATIA and Creo2. Software and analysed by the finite element simulation using ANSYS AIM 17 to extract the different mode shapes and natural frequency of the different designed machine components. The Model is evaluated and corrected with experimental modal analysis results in which natural frequencies and shape of vibration modes are analysed.
