Abstract

The constant exhaustion of fossil fuels and rapidly increasing energy demand asks us to focus on the utilization of renewable energy sources which undoubtedly are future unlimited energy sources and eco-friendly on the top. Even though solar power generation has several advantages over other forms of electricity generation, the major issue is of the availability of land as well as its sky-high costs. To which Floating Solar Plant is the solution and this new era of solar power generation also comes with the dual advantage of reduction in loss of water due to evaporation. This floating solar plant can be installed in any water bodies which will not only decrease the cost of the land but also will raise the amount of generation with the cooling effect of water. This paper presents the technical details of floating solar power plants. This plant involves solar panels and other components that are fitted onto a platform made of hollow plastic pipes or drums which enable it to float. The study of the same is done in case of Gangapur Dam Reservoir, Nashik, India analyzing the potential for Floating Solar Power Plant. It particularly contains the analysis done on the collected data of actual site that is daily average evaporation that occurs at the reservoir and the approximate revenue loss due to the same.
