Abstract |

The radio frequency (RF) cavities of particle accelerators are energized mostly by klystron RF amplifiers. These klystron are powered by high voltage, high peak power pulsed sources, called pulsed modulator. This paper presents study of high frequency switched, DC-DC resonant based long pulse modulator. The DC-DC converter employs IGBT’s for switching at 20 kHz. Nanocrystalline core material based high voltage, high frequency transformer is used for high voltage generation. The resonant converter helps to achieve soft switching of IGBT switches at turn on and turn off transitions. Phase shift topology is used for droop compensation. |
