Abstract |
|
Due to the trend of using light weight structures the load carrying structures such as footbridges and cable-stayed bridges are becoming more susceptible to vibrations caused by pedestrians or wind. To prevent such a damper are provided to maintain the proper functionality of the bridges. Dampers have become more popular recently for vibration control of structures, because of their safe, effective and economical design. This paper presents a general idea of literature related to the behavior of dampers for vibration control of bridges. The review includes different types of dampers like Tuned Mass dampers, Tuned Liquid Dampers, Metallic dampers, Viscoelastic dampers, Frictional dampers. The review also includes the results of theoretical and experimental studies of pedestrian bridge vibrations carried out by various authors which has been described and discussed. Based on the results of calculations and measurements, different types of dampers have been designed and mounted in the structures. |
