Anomaly detection refers to the problem of finding arrangement in data that do not conform to normal behavior. These nonconforming patterns are often referred to as anomalies, oddity, discordant observations, exceptions, aberrations, disappointment, peculiarities. The importance of anomaly detection is due to the fact that anomalies in data translate to significant, and often severe, actionable information in a wide variety of application domains. Many anomaly detection techniques have been specifically designed for certain application domains, while others are more generic. This survey tries to provide a framed and comprehensive overview of the research on anomaly detection. |
