This paper focuses on the importance of composite materials in mechanical engineering, terminology used in composite materials, various definitions, classification and the latest developments in composite materials in different parts of the world. In the recent times the use of composite materials has increased to a great extent because of their durability and high strength. Composite materials have changed all the material engineering. The evolution of composite materials has given an opportunity to various designers to use new and better materials resulting in cost reduction, increase in efficiency and better utilization of available resources. Composite materials are finding their applications in aerospace industry, automobile sector, manufacturing industries etc. |
