Abstract

Aluminium has been used matrix material owing good mechanical properties coupled with better formability. Moreover, SiC as reinforcement in aluminium system improves mechanical properties of composites. In spite of fact that Al-SiC possess superior mechanical properties, the high abrasiveness of the SiC particles obstacle the wide industrial application. Al-SiC composite has the widest used in the aerospace application owing to high hardness and light weight material. After the development of material, micro hardness, density, microscopic view of that specimen were tested. In this research Al-SiC composite material was made by powder metallurgy route. In recent year, aluminium alloy based matrix composites (MMC) are gaining valuable in many aerospace industry and automobile industry. Powder metallurgy homogeneously distributes the grains using reinforcement in the matrix with no internal reaction and with less porosity. SiC particles containing different weight fractions (8, 15 and 22 %) and mesh size (320) are used as reinforcement.
