Abstract

Generally the cost of a structure depends up on the type of foundation used. Construction of foundation takes 30% - 40% of total cost. The cost of construction of foundation may be reduced by reducing the self-weight of the structure. Especially in case of marine structures the construction of foundation is the major problem than the construction of super structure. It takes nearly 50% of the total cost. The cost of foundation can be reduced by reducing the load beared by foundation by make use of floating concrete. Generally the density of floating concrete ranges from 300 kg/m3 – 1840 kg/m3. The ingredients of this floating concrete are cement, fly ash and, rice husk ash. Fly ash and rice husk ash are light in weight, so they make the concrete to float. In addition to this aluminium powder and foaming agent are used as admixtures. The main objective of this project is to compare the characteristics of the floating concrete made with aluminium powder and foaming agent.
