Abstract

To control automotive emission is more important because of air pollution and global warming issues to our society. Today’s emission control techniques mostly focus on exhaust gas after treatment system. Therefore, a new technology has to be invented that simultaneously prevent emission formation and reduce fuel consumption inside the internal combustion engine during combustion process itself. Catalytic coating on the piston is one of the proven technology for reduction of emission and improve fuel economy. In this paper deals with catalytic coated piston in order to increase the thermal efficiency and to reduce the emission. Since, copper is a good catalytic material and it is coated over the piston crown. In this paper it first deals with thermal analysis of aluminium alloy piston to calculate the heat flux density by using ANSYS R15.0 software. Then the effect of copper coating material on the piston is analyzed. Finally, the results are compared and discussed in detail.
