Abstract

Aluminum alloy 7075 has been widely used in aircraft, structural application and automobile materials particularly for its low weight strength ratio result in lower fuel consumption. However further development is needed with respect to improve the wear properties for more versatile application it is achieved by the retrogression and re-aging (RRA) heat treatment. Dry sliding wear of the as-cast and retrogression and re-aging(RRA) heat treated alloy were tested it was found that when wear resistance of retrogression and re-aging(RRA) heat treated alloy is more as compared to the as-cast alloy. The parameters such as track diameter, load and speed were identified will effecting wear rate the design of experiments(DOE) approaches using taguchi method was employed to analyze the wear behavior of the material, signal to noise ratio and analysis of variance(ANOVA) were used to investigate the parameters on the wear rate.
