Experimental Study on Concrete with Expanded Clay Lightweight Aggregate as Coarse Aggregate

Abstract

The dead load of concrete works could promote higher structural cost in project in mega structure. With using natural aggregate, it is difficult to achieve optimum density of concrete. So the Expanded Clay Lightweight Aggregate (ECLA) concrete is a use-full to solve this problem. Use of ECLA that has good workability and density is better than the normal concrete. On this research using of expanded clay lightweight aggregate in normal concrete give better workability and also satisfy strength of concrete. The expanded clay lightweight aggregate is artificial aggregate which manufactured by companies using mine clay as raw material. The experimental of using ECLA partial replacement of natural coarse aggregate will explore in this research. An experimental study is made by preparing specimens by utilizing ECLA as partial replacement of natural aggregate in normal concrete with a percentage replacement from 0% to 40% i.e. (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%). Test on fresh concrete is slump and compaction factor for all trial mixes. Conventional specimens are also prepared for M25 Concrete without using ECLA. By conducting tests for both the specimens the properties of concrete. This study ensures that using of ECLA as partial replacement of natural coarse aggregate in concrete gives a good approach to reduce cost saving in mega structure and achieve the better properties of normal concrete.
