Abstract

Measuring physical fitness conditions is important for people tracing their health conditions and preventing or controlling diseases and conditions. For example, a good gauge of the risk for diseases that can occur with more body fat is associated with body mass index (BMI); the higher BMI will cause the higher risk for certain diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems, and certain cancers. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of a wireless non-contact system that uses radio-frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data from a tag attached to an object, for the purposes of automatic identification and tracking. Some tags require no battery and are powered and read at short ranges via magnetic fields (electromagnetic induction). Others use a local power source and emit radio waves (electromagnetic radiation at radio frequencies). The tag contains electronically stored information which can be read from up to several meters (yards) away. Unlike a bar code, the tag does not need to be within line of sight of the reader and may be embedded in the tracked object. In this project, a physical fitness condition measurement system based on radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is proposed. The system includes a RFID tag, a RFID reader, a main control board, and several peripherals such as blood pressure meter, ear-temperature meter, height-weight meter, balance measurement, and speed test for running back forth measurement. The RFID tag and reader are used to store and read a user’s identification as well as their physical fitness conditions.
