CFD Analysis of Dimple Tube Heat Exchangar with and Without Screw Tape Insert

Abstract

Screw tapes have inserts has been extensively studied to their advantages of steady performance, simple configuration and ease of installation. Now, the attention on how to optimize the thermal performance of tube fitted with helical screw tape insert has been increased. To achieve a good heat transfer performance as well as low friction factor we, propose internal helical threaded pipe fitted with screw tape insert in present work. Heat transfer enhancement can be achieved through dimpled tubes. This is an interesting technique in order to obtain more compact and efficient equipment. Tubes with artificial roughness obtained by providing dimples on the external tube surface are competitive in comparison to performance and cost of other enhanced techniques currently employed in turbulent flow.
