Abstract |

Large-scale land reclamation projects have been carrying out for the past decades. Aside from the availability of the landfill materials which normally use sands or hill-cut materials, dredged materials can be used for the land reclamation. Utilizing the dredged or excavated marine clay for land reclamation becomes more popular. The dredged materials can’t be used directly due to its very low strength parameters; hence it should be treated with proper additives, thereby supporting construction purposes. In this study, Vizhinjam dredged soil is considered and its geotechnical properties are determined. A series of of laboratory tests (Compaction tests, Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests and California bearing ratio (CBR)) were conducted on soil specimens added with various percentages of lime and then optimum amount of lime along with different proportions of fly ash by the weight of dry soil. The test result reveals that the optimum content of admixture for achieving maximum strength is approximately 6% lime along with 10% fly ash of the dry weight of the soil. |
