An elevated water tank is a large water storage container constructed for the purpose of holding water supply at certain height to pressurization the water distribution system. Water tanks are very important components of lifeline. They are critical elements in municipal water supply, firefighting systems and in many industrial facilities for storage of water. The liquid storage tanks are particularly subjected to the risk of damage due to earthquake-induced vibrations. A large number of overhead water tanks are damaged during past earthquake. In this paper Equivalent Static Analysis for different types of bracing systems i.e. Cross bracing, V-type bracing applied to the staging of elevated circular water tank in zone IV is carried out using STAAD Pro. The results obtained from this direct method of the software are compared with manual calculation. Comparison of base shear and nodal displacements of the container of circular water tank for empty, 25% filled, half-filled, 75% filled and, full condition is done. |
