Abstract

Pedestrian walking is the effective mode of transportation for short trips and it is the major mode of transportation in Indian cities. Pedestrian flow characteristics mainly refer to the relations of the three parameters, flow, speed, and density. Buses are the most popular and convenient mode of transport in urban cities. Pedestrian flow at the bus terminal depends on the time of buses. Field data of pedestrian flow was collected in transport bus terminal using video graphic survey. The data was analysed and find the pedestrian characteristics like speed, flow and density as well as to draw the fundamental diagrams of pedestrians in transport terminal for the effective traffic management. The result shows that the fundamental relationship between speed, density and flow of pedestrian is analogous to vehicular flow. Significant difference in speed existed between male and female pedestrians with respect to age, luggage gender and direction attributes. Pedestrian flow is changed according with the bus timing. Flow of pedestrian at entry is higher than exit of the KSRTC Stand.
