Abstract |

Huge quantities of flowers are offered everyday as a part of religious rituals in India. This quantity multiplies many times during special occasion like Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navaratri, Maha Shivratri. It also comes from various sources like hotels, marriage gardens, dargah and various cultural and religious ceremonies. After fulfilling their purpose, flowers and other wastes include but limited to incense sticks, kumkum, food items, coconut shell and plastic bags are discarded creating various environmental problems. This study proposes to utilize and manage flower waste and coconut shell. Flower waste can be change into compost by vermicomposting and coconut shell can be use in concrete as a replacement for coarse aggregate. Both of these technique work towards value addition to waste in the form of compost and concrete material. |
