Abstract

The braking process is an energy conversion from kinetic energy into heating energy that can cause damage for parts of the braking system. However, for the safety reason, the mechanical brake system must be used. This study will design, calculate and control the kinetic energy recovery system based on the conventional powertrain vehicle. The simulation model is controlled by a combination of Matlab Simulink and CarSim softwares with standard driving cycles. Based on the simulation results, the energy recovered during the deceleration vehicle is calculated. The results of this study will be fundamental for calculating the optimization of recovery energy and improving the fuel economy of the vehicle when equipped with an energy recovery system.
