Abstract

This paper is based on Microchip ATMEGA328P microcontroller-based design and implementation of energy meter using IoT. The main objective of this paper is to reduce errors in electrical billing due to human involvement and also easy detection of power theft [2]. The energy meter is connected to Arduino Uno through LDR (Light Dependent Resistor). The main meter and the sub meter readings are read by the Arduino and the difference is evaluated. If there is no difference in readings between main meter and sub energy meter then it is working in normal condition indicating that no power theft has occurred. The theft status is determined by the differences in the readings of two meters and it will be displayed on the LCD display and the whole power supply connection will be disconnected. It is the proposed solution for the present energy crisis for the Indian economy. People can get to know their energy consumption using mobiles and laptops [4]. This technology reduces time and energy in the lives of people easier. The proposed technology presented in this paper helps to reduce the loss of power and helps in generating accurate bills also to reduce the human intervention.
