Abstract

Chain sprocket is one of the important component of chain drive for transmitting power from one shaft to another shaft. The front sprocket drives the rear sprocket via chain connection. In this study of the stress of chain drive, existing sprocket of mild steel is compared with the sprocket of cast iron material. It has been achieved by using Ansys 18.1, by applying torque in to the model of sprocket. Then model is made by the commands in Solid Works 2016 and geometrical selections in part design module. Pre-processing like meshing is carried in Ansys 18.1. With insertion of that model into the Ansys 18.1 for Post-processing with different properties of mild steel we found different values of Von-Misses stress, total deformation and equivalent elastic strain. With same model of sprocket, analysis has been carried out in Ansys 18.1 with different properties of cast iron.
