Application of Sugarcane Bagasse Ash in Cement Concrete

Abstract

India is an agriculture based nation, many crops like rice, wheat, sugarcane etc. are grown here. These crops also produces waste and the disposal of these waste is also a sincere issue now a days, as these waste are responsible for pollution of the environment. Reduction of waste is very important for any nation due to economical, enviromental and technical reasons. Earlier studies show that some of these waste have pozzolonic properties like Sugarcane bagasse ash. Sugarcane bagasse is a fiberous waste product of the sugar refinery industry along with ethanol vapour. Sugarcane bagasse ash has mainly contains silica and aluminum ions. Sugarcane bagasse ash causes serious enviromental pollution, so this waste must be handled on urgent basis. Cement is the bonding agent in concrete. Manufacturing of Ordinary Portland Cement also produces large amount of CO2 which is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect and the global warming of the planet. To reduce the consumption of cement sugarcane bagasse ash is applied in concrete with partial replacement of cement. In this project Sugarcane bagasse ash is partially replaced in the ratio of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% by the weight of cement in concrete.
