Abstract

Graph of using conventional bricks for construction is increasing day by day, we'd like alternate to scale back the excessive demand of the traditional bricks. Black cotton soils are boon to agriculture but are proved to be serious threat to construction. These soils have the property of high swelling thanks to imbibing of water in monsoon and shrinkage thanks to evaporation of water in summer seasons. Its swelling and shrinkage nature is attributed to the presence of mineral montmorillonite. due to this high swelling and shrinkage nature, the structures constructed on these soils experience cracks, making it unsuitable for foundation. Hence there's a requirement for improving black cotton soil to suite as foundation material and as a construction material. also, it are often possible to extend its resistance to its water absorption capacity.
